Programmatic and connected TV ads for B2B SaaS

In a narrow role, yes. Programmatic advertising works for B2B SaaS as a way to build awareness among a defined list of companies or roles, across websites and streaming TV. It is not a dependable source of leads. People watching a show or reading a news site are not looking for software, and the formats offer little to click. For most companies it comes after search, retargeting and LinkedIn, if it comes at all.

Best for

Large contracts sold to a known list of accounts, once search and LinkedIn are working.

Buyer moment

The buyer is reading a site or watching streaming TV and is not looking for software.

What it costs

No sourced benchmark was found. Budget is people to reach, times frequency, times cost per thousand.

Main risk

Impressions that land outside the target accounts. The open web knows little about job roles.

Does programmatic advertising work for B2B SaaS?

It depends on the job it is given. The table sets out five common ones.

Job Does programmatic fit? Why
Make target accounts familiar with the company Yes Repeated exposure across many sites and screens
Support an account-based program for large deals Yes Reaches more people in a buying group than search can
Retarget website visitors beyond Google and Meta Sometimes Extra reach, at extra complexity
Generate demo requests No The viewer is not searching, and TV has nothing to click
Test whether a market wants the product No Search answers that faster and for less

The question underneath is whether a company needs awareness it cannot get more cheaply elsewhere. A product with a few thousand possible customers, each worth a large contract, may. A product sold on a card for a low monthly price almost never does.

What is programmatic advertising?

It is the automated buying of ad space across many publishers at once, in place of buying from each publisher directly. LinkedIn's advertising glossary describes the main parts.

Term LinkedIn's definition
Ad tech "The tools and systems that connect advertisers with publishers"
Demand-side platform "Tools that allow advertisers to bid for ad space programmatically from websites, apps or other online channels"
Supply-side platform "Platforms for publishers to manage and sell their ad inventory"
Data management platform A system to "collect and organize data to help marketers understand who their audience is"

In practice an advertiser gives a demand-side platform a budget, an audience and creative. The platform bids for impressions wherever that audience appears.

For B2B the audience is the hard part. The open web knows little about a person's job. Account-based advertising tools deal with this by matching traffic to companies, so ads reach people at named accounts. That identifies the company with reasonable confidence and the role within it much less well.

What is connected TV, and how do B2B advertisers buy it?

Connected TV, or CTV, is advertising shown inside streaming services on a television. For B2B the notable route is LinkedIn, which sells CTV ads using its own professional audience data. The product sits beside the formats on the LinkedIn Ads page.

Aspect What LinkedIn's page says
Targeting "Connect with the same valuable audiences you reach through LinkedIn"
Publishers A premium option places ads with named TV publishers such as NBCUniversal or Paramount
Campaign objective Brand awareness
Creative "Only 15 or 30 second video durations are compatible"
Reporting "Reach, impressions, frequency, eCPM, CPR, completion rates, and conversions"
Lift measurement First-party and third-party brand lift testing

The objective row settles how it should be judged. LinkedIn offers CTV for brand awareness only. It is not built or sold as a lead format.

LinkedIn publishes its own performance claims for the product, including a "30% decrease in cost-per-lead for audiences first reached by CTV Ads," attributed to LinkedIn internal data from 2025. That is a vendor's figure about its own product, with no method published on the page. It is worth knowing and not worth planning around.

What does programmatic cost for B2B SaaS?

There is no sourced answer. This site found no figure with a stated sample for B2B SaaS, so the budget has to come from arithmetic.

Budget = people to reach × times each should see the ad × cost per thousand impressions ÷ 1,000

Here is an example with invented numbers. Reaching 20,000 people ten times each in a quarter is 200,000 impressions. At a cost of $50 per thousand, that is $10,000 in media. Because open-web and TV buying reaches many people outside the target group, the real cost of delivering those impressions to the right people can be several times higher.

That is what makes awareness media expensive for narrow audiences. The price per impression may be reasonable. The share of impressions that land on a possible buyer is small.

How should programmatic be measured?

By reach among the target audience and by lift, never by clicks. Five measures do the work.

Measure What it shows
Reach and frequency among target accounts Whether the ads got to the right companies, and how often
Video completion rate Whether the ad was watched
Brand lift study Whether people exposed to the ads recall or prefer the company more than those who were not
Brand search volume from the target market Whether more people are looking for the company by name
Pipeline at exposed accounts against unexposed ones Whether exposure went with more sales activity

The last row is the one closest to revenue. It needs a holdout: a set of similar target accounts that are deliberately not shown the ads. Without one, any rise in pipeline can be explained by the fact that target accounts were chosen because they were likely to buy.

Click-through rate should be ignored. The Paid Ads Pipeline Disconnect in B2B SaaS (GrowthSpree, June 2026), a study of 1,412 ad variants, found it correlated with pipeline at 0.07 on Performance Max, which includes display and video placements. No such figure was found for programmatic buying itself. The measurement basics are on the conversion tracking and attribution page.

When should a B2B SaaS company consider programmatic?

When five conditions are all met.

  1. Contract values are large. Published 2026 benchmarks place display and full account-based programs in the campaign mix for contracts above $150K a year.
  2. The market is a known list of accounts. A list gives the platform something to match against.
  3. Search, retargeting and LinkedIn are already covered and measured on cost per sales-qualified lead.
  4. There is creative to run. For CTV, that means a 15 or 30 second video made for the purpose.
  5. A holdout test is planned before the first dollar is spent.

A company that does not meet all five will get more from the channels it already runs. How the channels fit together by contract size is on the budget and channel mix page.

Frequently asked questions

What is programmatic advertising in B2B?

Programmatic advertising is the automated buying of display, video and streaming TV ads across many publishers through a demand-side platform. In B2B it is used mainly to keep a company in front of a defined list of target accounts, as part of an account-based marketing program.

Is connected TV advertising worth it for B2B SaaS?

For most companies, not yet. Connected TV suits large contract values, a known list of target accounts and a team that already runs search and LinkedIn well. LinkedIn sells CTV with professional targeting and supports it for brand awareness only, so it should be judged as awareness.

Can programmatic ads target by job title?

Not reliably on the open web, which knows little about a person's job. Account-based tools match traffic to companies and are weaker on the role inside the company. LinkedIn's connected TV product is an exception, because it uses LinkedIn's own professional audience data.

How is connected TV advertising measured?

With reach, frequency and completion rates, and with lift studies that compare people who saw the ads with people who did not. LinkedIn reports those metrics and offers brand lift testing. Clicks are not a meaningful measure, since a television has nothing to click.

Does programmatic advertising generate leads?

Rarely in a way that can be tracked. The viewer is not looking for a product and the formats offer little to act on. Its effect, where it has one, shows up indirectly, as more brand searches and better response in search, LinkedIn and sales outreach.
